Google+ & SEO: currently the best reason for using it?

Some info about Google+ from Graeme Callingwood info@thetoppageguru.com that I decided to share … it’s unedited as I’m in a rush – hopefully for people’s benefit:
“Lets consider what happens when someone presses your Google+ button on your site or on your AdWords ad:
First, all of their friends who are in their gmail account will be sent a notification recommending your site and service to them.
This will also extend to Facebook and Twitter as Google+ will invite them to join. So instant and FREE advertising for your web site to hundreds of people.
But there is more!
Now anytime one them is looking for a product or service on Google and see your AdWords ad or natural search listing, Google will put a notification next to your site or Ad saying
“Jenny Smith (or whatever their friends name is) recommends this site to you”
Imagine, you will get a personal recommendation from someone they know to use your service and it will make your AdWords ad or site stand out from your competition!
All of that has to be good for your business! and what’s more its FREE!
It will also greatly affect your page ranking on Google because the more people press on your Google+ button the higher your sites relevancy will be viewed. They will become more important than inbound links.
So for all of these reasons you are going to want as many people as possible to press your Google+ button!
I already have several marketing strategies prepared to encourage people to press your Google+ button. I will send these to you in due course.
In conclusion Google+ is going to be huge and your advantage is that you will be amongst the first to use it properly and to integrate it into your AdWords campaigns, Re marketing ect…. and REALLY benefit from it!
Putting you way ahead of your competition!”

SEO Witchdoctor Rankings in Sydney Australia
Text by Danielle Lipchovski
In SEO, there are two things we aim for – either extremely high first-page rankings for searches which return 10 million or more results – or multiple super-high rankings for anything below 10 million results.
When we explain this to the “low corporate IQ” people who run most of Australia’s corporations, they actually don’t believe the ROI figures quoted by our existing clients.
Just yesterday we had a CEO of a major corporation say to his marketing manager, who is lobbying for his company to finally do some SEO after they’ve done nothing at all (and here we are in 2012), that he’s more likely to believe a witchdoctor than our SEO client testimonials.
Anyway check out the below graph and see for yourself what we achieve for clients such as Cherry Red, a small boutique fashion store in Mudgee who is outranking Westfield, David Jones and Myer: a #2 ranking out of 43 million results for the search “designer handbags” – back in July 2011, their website didn’t even exist … :

SEO Hong Kong Search Engine Optimisation for Health Arts College
Getting the First 6 Results on Google – we prove it’s still Possible!
Our association with The Health Arts College based in Melbourne, but now extending to other Australian cities and even Hong Kong spans over 2 years.
In 2011 they’re launching campuses in Adelaide and Perth, but thanks to the power of the SEO we’ve done for them, they already have their SEO-ed websites actively marketing them into Sydney, Brisbane and even Hong Kong with hundreds of visitors to those sites daily.
Their 5 main areas of specialty are aromatherapy, remedial massage, kinesiology, beauty therapy and reflexology.
By using ‘secondary pages’ on our exclusive-use high traffic media website, as well as capitalising on the SEO potential of their 6 city based websites, we were delighted to see searches such as ‘Kinesiology Courses Hong Kong’ now bring them into the top 6 positions on Google for that search! (see the purple links on the below image).
Links 4 and 5 lead to articles we wrote and published on our high traffic media website www.freshmag.com.au eg check out one of the articles here http://www.freshmag.com.au/thehealthartscollege.html
One of the key aspects of successful SEO that isn’t always fully realised is you don’t want to appear for one set of search terms, you want to appear for as many as possible!
‘Kinesiology Courses Hong Kong’ is all well and good, but what about other equally popular search terms? Luckily here at SEOtherapy team we take a holistic view of our work and attempt to make your website as visible as possible for every keyphrase of it’s chosen field.
It’s simple really, the more search terms you appear for relating to your industry, the more people will be looking at you and the more effective your marketing will be.
In the picture below you can see we’ve secured the top 5 positions on a google search for ‘Aromatherapy Courses Hong Kong’.
Yes, SEOTherapy has struck again with not just a top 5 ranking, but all of the top 5 rankings!
You can’t get much better results from your SEO than what we’ve been providing to our clients now can you?
Well, actually you can! Using some of our extremely secretive SEO techniques (which are all 100% white hat – it’s just we invented them) Google itself is starting to give our clients some very nice free advertising, eg go to a google search at the top of your page or from their website www.google.com
Simply typing the phrase ‘Health Arts’ will start giving you suggestions on what you might be looking for. ‘Health Arts College’ appears as the 4th possible choice of things you may choose to search for.
Following this Google prompt our client The Health Arts College appears in the top 10 results on Google….

Google Algorithms: Dramatic Changes the Biggest in Five Years
Small businesses around the planet are scrambling to maintain their online rankings after search giant Google changed its search algorithms.
The revamp constitutes the biggest change to Google’s algorithms in at least five years.
You may have already noticed your website has shifted positions – with a corresponding effect on demand for your products or services.
If you’re in business and rely on your website for business, it’s advised you check your rankings immediately.
Search engine experts around the world are recommending that companies revisit their Google strategies as most rankings would suddenly have changed. As one SEO specialist warned, “small guys have been snuffed out”.
New Google searches will often (though not always) produce a local map on the screen, and a list of several entries with red flags, referring to the map.
Many local businesses will find Google doesn’t position their entries as high as previously, meaning potential customers will have to scroll further down the pages of results to find them.
Google product manager Jackie Bavaro announced Place Search on Wednesday, describing it as a new kind of local search result that organises information around places, clustering search results around locations that enable users to more easily make comparisons.
”Place Search results will begin appearing automatically on Google when we predict you’re looking for local information. In addition, you’ll find a new link for ‘Places’ in the left-hand panel of the search results page so you can switch to these results whenever you want.”
Locally, there will be Australian winners. More Yellow Pages advertisers will get exposure for a single local search – good news for Sensis, the official Australian supplier of data to Google.
The changes reinforce the need for businesses to optimise their online presence, making sure they have a page on their website containing their physical address, phone numbers and other items such as reviews.
A business that previously came up fourth on a list in response to a Google search, might now have 10 map-based entries above it, relegating it to 14th position on the list, pushing it below what search engine experts call ”the fold”, the line delineating what is immediately viewable on most computer screens.
Businesses above the fold are far more likely to gain the attention and custom of people conducting a Google search.
Website Mashable.com says Google has been adding an increasing number of location-based search features.
Google Places Winners & Losers
The change: Google Places allows business owners to create a free profile containing address information. With the recent changes some location sensitive search results now feature Google Places listings ahead of organic search results or, in some cases, integrated into the organic results themselves.
Why this matters: For some searches, the previously top ranking organic results are now receiving less prominence, and therefore less traffic. Of the three changes this is by far the most important.
Potential winners: Businesses with a physical location and a reasonably developed Google Places listing.
Potential losers: Large national sites who were previously able to dominate search results through significant SEO budgets, directory sites who were able to dominate search results at the expense of actual providers and online stores and other businesses who are not able to claim a Google Places page.
Additionally, Google is turning to mobile services to help curb its reliance on personal-computer web queries.
The company faces rising competition for online advertising dollars from Facebook and Microsoft.
If you want to discuss the full ramifications of these changes to your business, email Stewart Dawes via media@seotherapy.com.au

STEWART DAWES writes about how business people can become successful on twitter while keeping their heads permanently buried in the sand …
It’s a fact that the phrase “so-called social media experts” has become daily jargon on the pages of “old media” newspapers around the Western world.
Some articles lampoon the phenomenon (usually through fear of this new decentralised media) – while others write in reverent tones.
Both angles are right – and wrong – that’s why both can be molded into coherent and persuasive articles.
On the one hand, every second life coach has recently reinvented him or herself as a “social media guru” – which is understandable as there are too many life coaches already.
Yet on the other hand, after one solid year hooked on twitter, I continue to marvel at the critical mass of geniuses (from all walks of life) and industry leaders who are constantly active – clearly enjoying the immediacy of Twitter. I’ve also noticed a new trend – as savvy types increasingly apply a Twitter mentality to Facebook, turning Facebook into a networking tool that few would have dared to do even twelve months ago.
Still many business owners procrastinate, believing they’re going to do Twitter in-house “one day”, while quietly hoping it’s all just a phase and they may never have to spend a single cent on it.
The reverse is far, far closer to the truth – and late-adopting business people continue to wake in fright at the prospect that they’re absolute beginners in what’s turned out to be an extraordinary community phenomenon.
Where do they begin? How do they begin? With a business name or a personal name? These are just three of the few hundred questions they’ll have to answer before even getting started.
That’s why I decided to develop a unique 12-month “social media solution” that even a very small business can afford.
This professional program will do one of two things:
1. Enable a business owner to entirely wash her/his hands of any fear surrounding social media. And if they wish, they can wash their hands of even having to do it at all. Twitter, Facebook, Linked In etc are ethically and yet dynamically managed – and significantly developed.
2. Alternately, for a business person prone to seeing the light and getting involved, the program can be run as a training system for the business owner and/or her/his clients.
Blissful ignorance – or fast-tracked empowerment. Or anywhere in between. I now have a range of clients enjoying the ride – I’m loving it too.
There’s much to say about this program – but it’s for the eyes and ears of genuine enquiries only. That’s how business works best – by finding the fastest path to the cutting edge of the market. And then staying there, smiting all comers.
I’d love to take your business there. Join me.

How Inbound Links Can Massively Help Your Website’s SEO
SEOtherapy SEO guru Stewart Dawes writes about backwater SEO in backwater Australia …
Australian business owners, when it comes to SEO, for the most part live in the dark ages.
Used to being big fish in a small pond, most of them long since became smug or downright arrogant, and if they did well in business despite their failings, they simply kept on doing the same things.
However, a handful of them sniffed the wind and woke up to the fact that $10K a month spent online is now far better than $20K a month spent on magazine advertising.
And yet, arrogant or innocent, Australian business owners are unwittingly becoming the victims of SEO sharks.
About 15 years ago when working as a magazine writer and photographer, I became aware of the adage that a career in photography was “the last refuge of a scoundrel”.
That concept stuck as I couldn’t help but see it ring true in the photographers I knew – and looking back, I was rapidly in the business of becoming a scoundrel myself.
A couple of years later I heard it declared that another “refuge of the scoundrel” career had been identified – teaching English overseas!
Well, tonight I’d like to complete the holy trinity of scoundrel refuges – it is, predictably enough, a career in SEO.
And here in 5-years-behind-the-rest-of-the-world Australia, it is being writ large.
Even the smallest business owners are coughing up $1,000 a month on 12-month contracts and after the first couple of months, the SEO companies taking their money are doing very little for it.
For a start, those companies’ efforts in the all-important area of “off-site SEO” will often be negligible, and as for the companies who are claiming to be onto it, they’ll fob their clients off by getting their articles very low-grade so-called “articles” on low-traffic blog pages that are a complete joke.
The irony is, the egg is on Australian business owners’ faces, but they can’s see it.
For a start, the top-league SEO experts in the USA & UK will tell you that offsite SEO should be 70% of any SEO campaign.
However even more crucially, the only genuinely effective long-term offsite SEO is to get articles published on high-traffic websites – and to ensure those articles link multiple times, and according to an absolute water-tight scientific formula, which naturally enough I won’t be recounting here.
Of course for 99.9% of SEO companies, access to high-traffic long-life media websites is not something they have, or ever will have.
That folks is our core difference, as our company started out publishing 2 media / magazine-style websites, which have been going for a combined total of 20 years.
When articles appear on these websites, they shoot up to the absolute top of Google within days. Not within weeks or within months. Testimonials available to genuine clients.
Here’s links to some of the articles we’ve written for “offsite SEO” Purposes:

Without doubt one of the most powerful ways to massively boost your website is to have fully targeted, relevant inbound links from articles on high-traffic websites.
Eg you’ll see the batch of articles below are all SEO-initiated articles and each of them links 30 or 40 times to our clients’ websites.
However this approach would not be successful if not for the high-traffic weighting Google gives to our two long-life media websites which have been going for a combined total of 20 years.
Blogs that attempt the same ‘inbound link’ technique simply don’t cut it.
SEO Services Sydney Australia SEO Companies SEO Experts Sydney
It’s time to understand something pretty simple about SEO, which can be summed up in the following “Did You Know”:
Did you know a chicken with red earlobes will produce brown eggs, and a chicken with white earlobes will produce white eggs?
The first SEO lesson from this statement is:
If you need eggs, you’ll buy them at the supermarket. So being Number 1 on Google for “chook eggs Sydney” is not going to bring you any customers.
Do you have a business that relies on shop placement? Or do you have something which needs to sell via online? Even if I have a potential client wanting to give me a lot of money for SEO work, if I’m convinced that people won’t buy their products via the internet then I simply won’t take the job on.
The second lesson from this chicken and egg statement is:
If eggs are SEO, do you always grab the first most prominent pack of dozen eggs on the shelf?
Usually these ones have the most recent use-by date.
I must admit I prefer to grab eggs, dairy, meat etc from the back.
The same very much applies when trying to choose an SEO company.
Google is a deeply conservative search engine, and I have created many results which I’ve got to number 1 on Google that have stayed there for ten years.
What this means is that, unlike other industries where companies may only have applied SEO recently, almost all of the SEO companies charting well on Google are there because they’ve been there almost forever.
What do you get from a company which is complacently occupying a position and cannot be knocked off its perch by a competitor?
How easy to contact was Telstra when it had the monopoly – or even the duopoly? Then we had Optus and standards improved, and so it went on. Phone companies can still be nightmares, but they’re all delivering a lot more than they used to.
This is the diabolical reality of most of Australia’s highest profile SEO companies failing to grasp or bother with the crucial concept of “off-site SEO”. And those that do claim to apply it, do it embarrassingly badly.
But the thing is, their poor clients will never know!

While 300,000 people are joining Twitter every day, a large amount of businesses are doing Twitter badly and don’t have the remotest idea how to be successful in this medium.
Yet they joined because recent figures have shown extraordinary results for businesses – if you want to see some figures, have a look at this 4 minute social media “return on investment” (ROI) video.
Perhaps you know all of this already, and you’ve realised that what social media does cost is time.
Our $22 per week Twitter Package continually grows your profile – and from an elevated platform you can then be involved as much or as little as you like.

Though by then it’s likely you’ll be seeing the results anyway, through higher traffic on your own website and increased customer interest.
Currently we’ve created and run over 40 twitter accounts all year around. Here are just a few (more available on request):
