Still Valuable: Twitter For Clicks To Your Site

By our SEO & Social Media Lecturer & Corporate Manager

In the course of my very enjoyable work teaching groups of business owners about social media, no group is without at least two company directors putting it straight to me:

“Why?” they ask, a quizzical but pained look on their faces.

“Why do Twitter … it seems such a horrific waste of time.”

For many, whether in business for one year or thirty, the thought of engaging in superficial chit-chat that might cause them to rub auras with reams of narcissistic celebrities, even of the local C-grade Sydney variety, fills you with dread at the futility of life.

I can’t help it, I go straight for the hip pocket.

“Out of the last ten leads quality leads I’ve got, twelve of them have been from Twitter, six from Facebook, and only four from the open web (Google).” I reply, because that average has been true for me for the last 12 months.

Usually what then happens is other business owners add some of their experiences of Facebook and Twitter as far as return on investment, networking with valuable industry contacts, and keeping up with cutting edge news in their industry, which they deem worthwhile in their own right.

However ultimately business owners attend my workshops to find out once and for all whether social media will or won’t work for them.

For some, it will remain off limits – they’ll put off taking action for another six or twelve months.

But for most, the urge to engage in positive progress has arrived – that’s why I’m meeting them.

About half take every strategy they can from the workshop and head off into the hills to apply DIY.

But the other half see the value in letting someone else grow it for them, so they can step in when they have thousands of contacts on Facebook and thousands more on Twitter, Linked In, Google+ etc, and do what I call the “icing content”, getting their message out from a position of power, popularity and authority.

How can you decide whether your business needs a social media manager to take care of your needs whether on Twitter, Linked In, Facebook, BranchOut, Google+, Pinterest, Youtube, Plaxo or other platforms?

You’ve come to the right place – that’s what we do!

Recent Testimonials

“We asked SEOtherapy to create and operate a twitter account to help Geoff Jowett our Bodytrim founder, to get a foothold on twitter while he was flat out developing the business. After 14 months they continue to do a very professional job and we now describe them as our social media gurus. They also provided fantastic in-house training for our staff, and now Geoff is able to provide the “icing tweets” on his account which is followed mostly by people who are interested either in weight loss, fitness or health. I unhesitatingly recommend them to any size business. – Robert Jarmyn, co-director, IGEA Group.

“Thanks to SEO Therapy, we increased our social media presence from virtually nothing last year to a high online profile this year. The benefit couldn’t be more clear. While we had only a few pre-sales in tickets for our festival last year, this year has been an entirely different story – with three sessions selling out and huge numbers for our other sessions. It simply would not have happened had we not been interacting with our target audience online.” – Sydney Underground Film Festival www.suff.com.au

“200% happy! Its already done wonders for my business. I’m getting calls and emails from people either asking for advice or from those seeing me as a success in my arena! It’s improved what I already had in place profoundly. Of my last six leads, threee came from twitter, two via facebook and just one from the open web. It’s exactly what I wanted thanks!” – Francoise Nicoloff, Sydney psychologist.

“When I tell other business people how much annual revenue this company is responsible for in my business, the crazy thing is, they don’t believe me! It’s their loss – I know the figures sound far fetched but they are real!” – Brian Knight, Principal, The Health Arts College.

Hottest Recent Twitter Developments

Twitter’s growing popularity, its use in the mainstream media and future integration in iOS 5 devices, presents an attractive advertising platform. Twitter is definately on the move. It added 100 million new accounts in 2010 alone.

Moreover, Twitter is about to be handed a huge advantage courtesy of Apple. iPad, iPhone and iPod touch users would be able to seamlessly use Twitter from their devices, opening up an entirely new user base for the micro-blogging service.

Twitter platform/api director Ryan Sarver, told All Things Digital that he views the iOS 5 integration, as a once in a lifetime opportunity that could take Twitter to the next level.

“We think every app is going to benefit from instant personalization from this social layer, from gaming to utilities to enterprise apps,” said Sarver.

The same week that we learned the iOS 5 would have Twitter baked into the deepest recesses of its Operating System, Facebook lost nearly 6 million U.S. users.

Quote: “As a former Facebook user, I grew to loathe it. I love Twitter & wouldn’t mind if it took over Facebook users. Unfortunately, I know a lot of FB users who don’t “get” Twitter. All I can say to that is “Try it and give it a chance”. LONG LIVE TWITTER!!!”.

A Beginner’s Guide to Twitter

Twitter is a social networking and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author’s profile page and delivered to the author’s subscribers who are known as followers. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow open access. Since late 2009, users can follow lists of authors instead of following individual authors. All users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website, external applications (notably including those developed for smart-phones), or Short Message Service (SMS), although the availability of SMS services varies by country. While the service itself costs nothing to use, accessing it through SMS may incur phone service provider fees. The website currently has more than 300 million users worldwide – and is adding over 300,000 users per day.

Since its creation in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone and Evan Williams, Twitter has gained notability and popularity worldwide. It is sometimes described as “SMS of the Internet.” The use of Twitter’s application programming interface for sending and receiving text messages by other applications often eclipses direct use of Twitter.

Pinterest – It’s still very good for vitamin and herbal medicine retailers.
